Post-menopause
(Life After Menopause)
Post-menopause begins after a woman has gone 12 months without a period and continues for the rest of her life. While some of the more intense symptoms, such as hot flashes, may decrease, lower levels of oestrogen during this stage increase the risk for certain health conditions, including osteoporosis and heart disease.
Long-term effects in postmenopause:
-
Bone health issues: Increased risk of osteoporosis due to reduced bone density.
-
Heart health risks: Higher chances of cardiovascular disease
-
Vaginal and urinary symptoms: Continued vaginal dryness, decreased elasticity, and risk of urinary tract infections.
-
Weight management challenges: Slower metabolism and changes in fat distribution, especially around the abdomen.
-
Skin, hair, and nail changes: Loss of collagen and elasticity in the skin, leading to wrinkles and thinning hair.
